Giving health practitioners the opportunity to achieve their work goals

IDP Education has welcomed the national health practitioner regulator’s National Boards’ approval of IELTS One Skill Retake as an accepted English language test for health practitioners looking to further their careers in Australia.

National health practitioner boards (the National Boards) set the standards, codes and guidelines   that all registered health practitioners, including medical practitioners, nurses and paramedics, must meet. IELTS One Skill Retake has been approved by National Boards and can be taken by applicants to meet their English language requirements as part of their practitioner registration, which is managed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

The National Boards and Ahpra work together to implement the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, regulating 16 health professions in Australia.

IELTS One Skill Retake enables test takers to retest one of the four IELTS skills (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) if they did not achieve the score they desired in one section of the test the first time around.

Warwick Freeland, Managing Director – IELTS, IDP Education, said recognising IELTS One Skill Retake as an accepted test for applicants would provide passionate health care professionals the opportunity to grow their career in the Australian health sector.

“One Skill Retake is designed to give IELTS test takers a second opportunity to achieve the score they need for their study, migration and work goals,” Mr Freeland said.

“Accepting IELTS One Skill Retake means non-native English speakers with overseas health qualifications have greater opportunity to meet National Boards’ English language skill requirements and begin caring for people in their new communities.”

IELTS One Skill Retake promotes fairness among candidates by providing an opportunity to retake a single skill if the test taker feels their original performance was not representative of their language proficiency.

“Health practitioners provide an essential service to the Australian public and this decision by National Boards ensures Australian health care providers have access to a larger pool of candidates without having to compromise on the quality of their English language skills," Mr Freeland said.

“IDP Education is proud to be supporting the ambitions and career goals of IELTS test takers and pleased to see organisations like National Boards adopting One Skill Retake.”

IELTS One Skill Retake is now available in key locations across Australia. For more information, visit our IELTS page.

Test takers are also encouraged to visit Ahpra’s website to understand the English language skills registration standard required for their profession.
